The interviewer will evaluate your attitude and answers. So be confident yet still humble. As stated in the beginning of the article, an interview is also about you finding out whether you really want to work in the company or not. So, when the interviewer gives you time to ask questions, do not hesitate but be well-mannered and ask questions that are relevant. What are the possible questions? See below.
- What will I be contributing to the organization?
- What is your company culture?
- What differentiates your company from your competitions?
- Why is this position vacant?
- Will this job involve in significant amounts of overtime or work on weekends?
- How long have you worked here and what position did you start with?
Usually, when you are given time to ask, you are close to the end of the interview. How would you close it? You can consider “Actually, I’d like to know how I should proceed.” What should you do after an interview? Here is our advice:
- Give your name card and ask for the interviewer’s should he/she has one
- Shake hand and thank the interviewer
- Send a thank you email noting your interest to the position and your expectation to hear the result from them
If we can summarize what you have to prepare and how to succeed in your interview, perhaps the following do’s and don’ts can help.
Interview Do’s
- Do plan to arrive on time or a few minutes early
- Do fill out application form neatly and completely (if any)
- Do greet the interviewers by their surnames
- Do give appearance of energy. Smile!
- Do wait until you are offered a chair before sitting. Sit upright, look alert, and interested all the times
- Do be a good listener and a good talker
- Maintain eye contact with the interviewer
- Do dress professionally for the interview and the job
- Do make sure that your good points get across in a factual sincere manner
Interview Don’ts
- Don’t relax and rely on your resume to do selling for you
- Don’t wear tinted glasses
- Don’t answer questions with a simple yes or no
- Don’t ‘over-answer’ questions
- Don’t make negative comments about your present employer or companies
Besides knowing the do’s and don’ts, you have to be aware that there are negative factors that will affect the interviewer’s judgment: poor personal appearance, over bearing, over aggressive, superiority complex, inability to express thoughts clearly, lack of planning for career, lack of interest & enthusiasm, and lack of maturity. You may want to put it into consideration.
